The study is based on a holistic approach that embraces both the urban, the physical, the social and the learning needs on an equal footing with technical requirements and technical analysis methods.

The approach measures the indoor climate both on the thermal (temperature), atmospheric (air quality), the visual (daylight, visibility) and the acoustic (sound) parameters. Calculations are performed with standards for the degree of wellbeing in a learning environment.

The overall aim of the project is to:

  • Reduce absenteeism
  • Improve the student’s health
  • Increase their sense of belonging
  • Improve the student’s performance and
  • to obtain an overall sustainable reduction of the buildings CO2 imprint.

The project provides an adaptable toolbox to retro-fit improve indoor environment in schools all over the United Arab Emirates.
